Beginner Class

DESCRIPTION:

French for Beginners is an introductory course for those who have had little or no prior knowledge of French language. Students will develop an ability to communicate in real-life situations by acquiring reading, writing, intonation, listening, and speaking skills.

Can recognise and use familiar words and simple phrases for concrete purposes. Can introduce himself or someone else. Can ask and answer basic questions about home, family, surroundings, etc. Can communicate in a basic way when the other person speaks slowly and clearly, and is ready to repeat or reformulate to help communication.

LEARNING OUTCOME

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to carry out functions such as the following in French:Engage in social interaction

  • Seek and give basic personal information (name, date of birth, age, address, telephone number)
  • Demonstrate understanding of simple information in a variety of authentic materials such as posters, advertisements, signs etc
  • Discuss different professions, courses and areas of specializations
  • Complete simple forms/documents
  • Translate basic documents (forms, letters)
  • Ask for and give basic instructions and directions
  • Write simple messages, letters, compositions and dialogues
  • Express feelings, preferences, wishes and opinions
  • Display a basic awareness of Francophone culture
 

CONTENTS

Learning activities will include: role play, simple interviews, situational responses, presentations, simple translations, filling out of forms.

 

CERTIFICATION

The French for Beginners program ends with a 2 hour test at the end to assess the students ability on listening, writing, reading and speaking and entitles them to a Certificate of completion. A course certificate is proof that you completed and passed the course. PROFICIENCY

Upon completion of this course, students will be proficient at level A1 according to the Common European Reference Framework for Languages (CEFR)
